I live things that are funny, sad, frustrating or just plain normal and I want to comment on them. I want my girls to know that I love them and I wish they would always be my babies. But especially I want them to grow up knowing how wonderful they are.Bellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14956418027853572709noreply@blogger.comBlogger126125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951169840185825789.post-37268785224091557522011-01-08T09:36:00.000-08:002011-01-08T10:59:12.363-08:00amazing, truly amazingthis morning i've been thinking about how much change we go through and that i've started to become immune to this sort of thing. not to changing, but to seeing this. Vivienne will always be Vivienne. Beatrice will always be Beatrice. and Phoebe will always be Phoebe. But you aren't the same. you add a new little thing every day that is so you that you don't seem different at all. yet i can't remember the how long it has been since Beatrice has been writing her name with large and small letters and i don't recall how long Vivienne's drawings have been telling a real story and well Phoebe has ideas that are all her own and quite thoughtful. Like the other day, Will and Phoebe were in the cellar and Phoebe turned out the lights. she turns to Will and says, "it's okay, i have big eyes, i can see in the dark." HYSTERICAL. where does she get these ideas? i wouldn't have been able to keep a straight face. don't imagine that Will did.
it's been a busy year. Vivienne lost her front tooth at Christmas and then right after the New Year, she lost a bottom one. Her second front tooth is so loose it looks as if it's coming straight out of her mouth. she has such a crazy looking grill, just like a urchin child. she will look so different, i think, when all her baby teeth are replaced. she already is catching up to me in height and seeming so grown up/ big girl.

the girls had a great christmas. santa party was a big hit. even made the local paper's blog.

http://7d.blogs.com/stuckinvt/2010/12/santa-visits-mayfair-park-205.html

we see from the video that Viv was really into the spirit of things. Beatrice was just hanging around (lurking behind Santa, really) waiting for her gift. and well, Phoebe was briefly sighted dancing around in the middle of the room once Santa vacated, or maybe it was before, he made his appearance. either way, she really had nothing to do with Santa. i don't believe she even sat on his lap --told me she didn't. she was more interested in the many costume changes she could find in the playroom. i had a difficult time surveying it all and eventually just gave up to enjoy the good food and adult conversation.

the girls are becoming quite the artists. almost weekly we find some fun little scribble that Will and i think would make a great t-shirt. we try to keep all this on file but sometimes the anti-hoard response kicks in and i sweep through the house damning all that is in my way. i'm sorry if i threw out any of your masterpieces. there will always be a new one with you three.

first grade is "the best year yet" for V. she is constantly coming home with great observations and talks quite a bit about doing patterns, recurring patterns. lets hope they are for good and not just bad habits. we still try to get you to bed earlier. it's hard with our work schedules.

Beatrice is the model student, literally. B's teachers constantly tell me that they use her as an example. our neighbor who reads to her class says that she is quite knowledgeable but not "show-off" i hope this is true. would want Beatrice to be hated by her classmates because she is a know-it-all. at home, at least you try to strike the middle child balance of listening/learning from V and teaching what you know. lately, you have been sharing your food knowledge with us as you are discussing the food pyramid at school. it's fun. Phoebe is constantly keeping up. she does a good job but doesn't seem to mind being left behind to have alone time or 'mama'time or 'daddy'time. just this morning the older girls went out to play in the snow and Phoebe stayed in to pretend play at the kitchen and draw. Phoebe takes her drawing time very seriously. she will even choose that over hot cocoa. i know it seems impossible but it's true. maybe this will change someday.
Bellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14956418027853572709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951169840185825789.post-31920209654368338852010-10-22T05:23:00.001-07:002010-10-22T05:37:39.383-07:00some great things that happened this summer was definitely the trip to Cape Cod. We didn't have a party in the grand sense but she got a cake and a week later the neighborhood kids were over for a movie night so we sang "happy birthday" and she got a second cake. Unfortunately i only had a tiny bit of space on my memory so the video of the singing got cut off. Phoebe did get the whole song AND a second cake, she wasn't cheated.
We are into a pretty regular routine around here with school in session. Always a slow start to the morning, dragging the girls out of bed, coaxing Viv to eat and B to stop growling. Apparently around here, we are not morning people. Vivienne is a bit on the dreamy side and B is just plane grumpy. Phoebe, we don't know about yet because we haven't really pushed waking her up, she gets up on her own and quietly slips into the routine. She is a bit more of a morning person, i think. She likes to have her food straight off and then second breakfast and sometimes comes back for a bagel or toast. this girl wants to fuel up. it makes up for the fact that she rarely shows much of an appetite at dinner. she is a little bird of a girl.

Viv loves her first grade class. Makayla (her BEST friend from kindergarden) is in her class again and they had to figure out pretty quick that maybe they "shouldn't sit together" so that they will "learn more". She has a class pet of a hermit crab and her teacher is so nice because "we get to sit where we want". She still goes to her Kindergarten teacher every morning to give her a hug. Viv loves her school. i love that.

Beatrice settled in completely at her preschool after the first week. She didn't have fun at first because she didn't have any friends but now she talks about classmates who she likes and seems to have fun. Her teacher Barbarajean says that having B is like having another teacher who reminds the kids what they should be doing (in a good way). Annie, another teacher, tells me that B is her model for when she needs someone to show how things are supposed to be done and that B knew all the names of her classmates almost at the same time the teachers did and the only student who knows who everyone is. i had a neighbor stop me to tell me that she reads to B's class and that B is great and smart but not in a know-it-all way. (thank goodness.) it is refreshing to hear these things about B since i don't get to see this as often as i'd like. it would seem that B doesn't think her best behavior is necessary at home. she has completely figured out the computer wanting to pull up her favorite video on netflix. the only thing holding her back is her inability to read. when she masters that i will have to put on some serious parental controls which she will probably be able to navigate around in a matter of months. i have an ipod touch that Uncle Rob gave me and she figured out the "games" pretty quickly and shows V and PO how to do things on it. She is a pip.

Phoebe is delightful. she chats us up when she gets to be the only child. she has pretty much potty trained. we have to remind her when out and about and still need to watch her when she sleeps but is completely self-sufficient during waking hours at home. She is so funny shuffling around with her pants at her ankles, announcing her success, doing a little dance. i will always celebrate that!
Bellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14956418027853572709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951169840185825789.post-84571492249208340682010-07-15T05:23:00.001-07:002010-07-15T05:46:59.670-07:00Beatrice, the storytellerOkay, so B, you have a knack for telling stories. I'm not sure if you actually believe what you tell people or if you know you are making things up, but you can be totally convincing. Like the time that you were pointing out a little girl in a picture that used to live in our neighborhood to Leslie, and you told her that she was our cousin that died because she smoked. you had Leslie absolutely baffled since she knew that a little 4 year old was not dead from smoking-- but you were seemingly convinced of it.
And then the other day we found this little clown that was yours since you were a baby. it plays a little song and there are lights that flash on/in it. i told you that it was yours and you used to love it. that there was a time when we were at Nanah's house and mama was out running errands and you were home with Uncle B and started to cry and cry. he finally got you stop by holding this little clown for you,- playing it over and over.

you said that you remember that it's your favorite doll!!!! you LOVE it!!!

you then told me that you remember that and that Uncle B taught you this dance while he was playing the song for you. and that i would NOT know this because i wasn't there. (you said this several times with emphasis.) so then you showed me this dance. i wonder if Uncle B remembers the dance? we should ask him....

now if you told me that it was Uncle Robert, i might have believed you. (even though he wasn't there) somehow the only way i see this dance coming from Uncle B is if he were showing you some japanese tea cermony or something.... even then.... i'm not buying this one, Beatrice.
but it's a pretty dance, too bad you gave up on ballet.
Bellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14956418027853572709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951169840185825789.post-13446254812128569202010-06-26T05:48:00.000-07:002010-06-26T06:10:35.290-07:00just a difference of 5 years....
Vivienne Elise, you have been with us for 6 years now and you constantly amaze and delight. i know it's a bit cliche and all parents will say this, but it's true. you are wonderful! i should also note that the amaze part isn't always a good thing though.... like when you wiped your hands on a beautiful dress after falling against a t-shirt that had wet fabric paint on it. with all my experience in dealing with paints, and even fabric paints, i drew a blank and couldn't quite get the dress back to normal. *sigh* please stop wiping your hands on your clothes!
but you are in many ways so accomplished. writing your stories, drawing your pictures, even reading your books. the little one year old that you were in the picture above told me nothing of what you are today. it's such a slow unfoldment that i don't often take notice of it until you are in full bloom- and i'm sorry that i am slow to celebrate when this happens. but i don't do justice to the young lady that you are becoming. trying to be helpful, quick to share and care, and yes, show off. pretend playing with your sisters- school, wedding, "cyberchase"...and with your friends, playing princess and clubhouse.... all these things and more are a part of a day with you, Miss V. thank you. and happy 6th birthday!!

Bellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14956418027853572709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951169840185825789.post-45051212775598040792010-06-11T05:12:00.000-07:002010-06-13T09:41:19.090-07:00things i don't want to forgetV- apparently even in your dreams i don't answer you. the other night while you were sleeping we heard. Baxter across the street has been riding for about a month or so and they saw another young friend Mia riding around the block with her mom monday morning without her training wheels. since both Mia and Baxter are younger than V, i mentioned that maybe we should spend some time with the girls soon so they could maybe master this.

so the girls begged Will and the training wheels came off. according to accounts Will almost didn't have the bolts tightened on B's bike before she was on it and trying to pedal away. he took one step and realized she didn't need him holding her. done. she is biking without assistance. crashed a couple of times in the grass but has since mastered start and stop and only topples when she turns too sharp.

V was a little shakey and didn't get it right away but Will said she was not discouraged. i was a bit worried at first that V wouldn't want to keep trying if B mastered it first but she is determined. while i was at work on tuesday she figured it out and now needs no assistance as well.

the girls are growing up even if i'm not around to view it.

tuesday morning B made me come out in the rain to see her new skill. she is so proud and so am i.

Bellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14956418027853572709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951169840185825789.post-82705768132903449562010-06-02T07:10:00.000-07:002010-06-02T07:39:39.021-07:00running into summer!!<img style="display:block; Viv brought home a brown bag which she decorated with a drawn picture of me in bed and filled (with help from Mrs. Bliss) with an apple, granola bar, juice box, and instant cocoa. it was very sweet and Will helped make the cocoa. while i snacked on my brown bag breakfast, V and B "helped" papa make egg sandwiches with fruit and coffee. it was all yummy even though i sustained minor rib and belly injuries as the girls fought and screamed over who would be next to and on top of mama. apparently "loving" mother on mother's day involves lots of cuddling in a very aggressive way. i couldn't feel more loved.

then mother's day was instantly over. no clean room like they said they would do for me. (at least not until Will went in and practically did the straightening for them) no extra special listening girls. and to just make their point that mother's day, indeed, does not last past noon, they went down to the basement and tore apart toys, flash cards, random baby items set aside for give away, and a mattress topper which is now scattered like snow over the whole lot. apparently i am the proud mother to a den of wild animals.

oh, and it snowed this mother's day, for real, outside. and happy mother nature day too.
Bellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14956418027853572709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951169840185825789.post-30658638862727601142010-04-17T08:36:00.000-07:002010-04-18T06:33:01.742-07:00Beatrice turns 4 take 2!
last sunday Beatrice turned 4. she is very 4 now. we had her party at a local gym that is set up well for young kids. somewhat intimate and great activities planned for the kids to do. they did a disappearing island game. (musical chairs where no one looses you just have to cram more & more kids in hula hoop/ islands as they become less and less in number until finally you have all the kids trying to stand inside one hoop) they had an obstacle course and a balance beam course.
B had a great time. she got to hang and swing and there was even a harness to hook into and jump doing backflips on the trampoline. (60∘, maybe) you girls were outside, playing house and having a great time. this week it is about 30∘ colder. yeah. you're not outside but you aren't watching t.v. -amazingly. admittedly, we let you girls watch way too much t.v. in the winter. when the weather gets nice you don't want to stay inside so i'm not that worried. you seem to learn quite a bit from our mixture of videos/pbs kids. that being said, i love nothing more than working on my chores while listening to you girls "let's pretend" this and that. today, you are pretending that it is summertime. this, of course, entails all sorts of outfit changes. why does all pretend play consist of pulling out too many clothes and then "pretending" you don't see them when it is time to clean up. i can't keep up. don't know what is clean or dirty anymore. THIS drives me crazy.
i was at a neighbor's house this week who has 2 small children. now given that just 2 of you can make plenty o' mess it should be that this house looks somewhat like ours. (maybe one less child cleaner) apparently, i am the most disorganized woman who ever had kids. she had everything in place. there was no paperwork stacked in piles on a table. no shoes scattered under couches. i didn't even get the hint of children living in the house (i.e. glass tables, breakable decorative baubles) until i saw the basement with a lovely little, everything-in-its-place, play corner. i wonder, why can't i do this?

it's not like i have a full time job (she does) it's not like i do tons of volunteer work (she does) heck, i don't even get sleep. it must be that she never watches t.v..... wait, i don't either. you girls are the ones that watch the t.v. some people have nice little organized minds and that appears in their lives while other people are a bit, well, more organic. yeah, that's it. while i admit that i would not ever like to live in a museum or hotel lobby where things are planned and sometime sterile, i could use some help in weeding. the house needs some selective pruning and i hope that as you girls grow up that we figure out this together. i will never get there on my own. i have a hard time keeping track of my own self that i am amazed at times that i remember to show up at work on time, showered. this does not have to be the way that you girls do things and i hope to help you find YOUR way. maybe in the process, i'll find a new way of living.
Bellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14956418027853572709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951169840185825789.post-25801551548705450142010-03-20T06:56:00.000-07:002010-03-20T08:23:34.653-07:00first day of spring<img style="display:block; Viv, you decided that two of your baby teeth could go. of course we know that you didn't decide this but we can pretend you had something to do with it. your first one fell onto your tongue when you were outside building a snowman with papa. it was not the one that i thought would go first. the really loose one hung on one more day and papa pulled it out while you were taking your bath. so you had a visit from the tooth fairy 2 nights in a row. the first night you got a shiny gold dollar coin. you tried to give it to me but i insisted you put it in your piggy bank. this morning you got two silver quarter coins. you don't know anything about the value of different monies and are happy with anything you get. i like that. you immediately give your second quarter to Beatrice who is now excited that the tooth fairy came. you both are planning the next tooth "outing" so that the tooth fairy will return tonight. you currently have no more loose teeth. when Phoebe woke up you decided to give your second coin to her. what a generous little girl. we'll see if that holds true when you discover the value of each coin. hope that doesn't change. so we put coin in all your piggies since you gave your two away, i found a coin for you to put in yours. it was a morning of celebrating.
while we are letting go of things, you girls could let go of whining and i will let go of impatience. i could also stand to let go of a few pounds but that is not all that important.
Bellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14956418027853572709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951169840185825789.post-74839908254005625442009-12-25T09:37:00.000-08:002009-12-25T10:21:08.277-08:00nice surprises "under" the treeChristmas has many mixed emotions for me. i love the season, the lights, the parties. i hate the retail, the mean people and the whining.
you girls get invited to a santa party every year. santa is perfect and you always get a small gift. V, you were funny since you actually got what you had been asking for, you were concerned that you wouldn't get anything more on Christmas. B, you wanted what V got and couldn't enjoy your little playmobile unicorn/ carriage. And Phoebe, well, you were just so excited to get to see santa and get a gift. i know you like your magnadoodle cause you throw a fit when you have to share.

you girls were cute because i made chex mix and chocolate sauce for gifts and gave you a choice on what to give your teachers. B, you were definite about wanting to give chex mix to your teachers and i even gave you the option of both. and V you wanted chocolate sauce even though i gave you the option of both. i'm glad to be raising little girls that have an opinion although it makes me crazy at times.

you all were introduced to the Polar Express movie and seem to love watching it. i have to admit that it is well done, magical and fun to sing. asked for it almost daily. the very monkey Christmas was also a big hit. curious George has a way with songs that you girls love to sing and dance to. watching movies in our house is rarely a passive thing.

V, you had a winter celebration at school where you all sang. it was nice and you seemed to love the songs that you learned for it. you were very happy that i made it there and wanted to show your little sisters how to behave at school.

Phoebe, you like to sing the most. PO will break out in jingle bells anytime you hear some "tinkling" i love that you find a song almost all the time. and join me when i sing silliness.

it's quiet this year. no extended family to hang with but that made it for a little less stuff as well. although your papa's family loves to bestow the gifts. you girls were pretty good with the gifts stopping to play and appreciate the gift instead of just ripping through it all like crazy. you seemed to be more interested in seeing me or Will open a gift too than you have in the past.

V, it was important to you that you and papa go get me something special. after W got off work on Christmas eve you went to the mall and got me something. W said that you were looking at stuff for you as much as for me but that it was fun to hang with you. he even bought you an ice cream because it was a special date for him and he wanted to just take some time to chat. you ended up getting me a hip purse, raspberry with fringe. i love it because it makes me a cool mom. thank you.

now in the quiet that happens after all the gifts are opened, you girls flicker around between drawing and playing and watching videos. mostly getting along. a good Christmas gift for sure.

Bellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14956418027853572709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951169840185825789.post-83747029884169950422009-12-09T13:18:00.000-08:002009-12-09T13:28:47.028-08:00Naughty or Niceah Beatrice, there isn't a day that goes by that you don't make me smile with some little nutty thing that you do. you truly are a coo coo bird. of course that makes up for the little things that you do that make me want to pull my hair out but that's not what this post is about.

today you are sitting in on the toilet with a toy phone in your hand. i overhear you say, "hey baby, whatcha got going?" i wonder who you are imitating since no one i know speaks this way. you continue with your one sided conversation to the point that i have to remind myself that there is no way anyone is on the other side of a toy phone.
Bellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14956418027853572709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951169840185825789.post-85498882178721276442009-11-21T06:05:00.000-08:002009-11-21T06:26:15.162-08:00when you're hot, you're hot!oh, Phoebe, here you are with the new sink showing us how small you are and how big the sink is. maybe, i'll even fill it up for you to soak in one day. you are becoming so much your own little person.
last week, we were at the bank trying to set up all the details on our home loan and you were being a little difficult. so instead of doing what i should have and just struggled with you i let you wander. you and Beatrice ran circles around the reception area and then you spotted the light switches. you stretched and managed to flip the switches and i told you to stop. you did. but once again instead of doing what i should have done by picking you up, i let you wander. this time out of my view where you found another switch, in seconds. the fire alarm. and like the light switches, i imagine you stretching and stretching until you finally caught you fingers on that lever and pulled it down. the damage done, you come crying and screaming to me while it dawns on me what you have done. it is a horrifying thing to have a fire alarm go off but even more to know that your child caused it. "bad mother. bad mother. " was ringing in my ears right along with that alarm. we were asked to evacuate, everyone was. everyone felt sorry for you Phoebe. wanting to comfort you. i have to say i didn't want you to calm down and feel good. i wanted you to know that this is not okay. that you need to see there are consequences to your actions. sometimes very unpleasant ones. and i have learned that you are not to be trusted in public to make good decisions. you are, after all, a two year old and i should still be making your decisions. duly noted. i'm not sure if i am welcome at the bank anymore. and i'm still keeping my fingers crossed that we don't receive a bill from the fire dept. for the accidental trip. so far, so good.
Bellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14956418027853572709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951169840185825789.post-49322406466690793792009-11-21T05:50:00.000-08:002009-11-21T06:05:43.505-08:00getting distracted, catching up.
halloween night the rain held off just long enough so my little creatures did not get soaked through.

went the week before halloween to trick or treat because i needed candy to hand out on halloween. "it's not the candy, mama. it's just me" good to know you are crazy on your own.

Bellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14956418027853572709noreply@blogger.com
